South Africa’s (SA) Chief Director for Global Governance and Continental Agenda at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) Ambassador Dave Malcomson wants to strengthen halal food certification and expand broader halal sector co-operation with Pakistan as both countries work to deepen trade and investment ties.
Malcomson was speaking during a diplomacy dialogue hosted by DIRCO in collaboration with the Pakistan High Commission in SA in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province.
The high-level discussion explored how global shifts are reshaping diplomacy, governance, trade, investment and mobility, while identifying practical pathways to strengthen relations between SA and Pakistan in a changing world.
Addressing delegates, Malcomson said SA a view the halal industry as a significant economic opportunity rather than solely a religious matter.
He highlighted that the global halal market is estimated to be worth three trillion Dollars, describing Malaysia as the benchmark for halal certification, while noting that SA is among the world’s top seven halal producers.
