World Health Organisation (WHO) has confirmed that Burundi has successfully eliminated trachoma as a public health problem.

The achievement marks a major milestone for Burundi’s healthcare system following years of efforts to combat the infectious eye disease, which is one of the leading causes of preventable blindness worldwide.

The announcement was made as health authorities and international partners praised the country’s progress in improving public health and disease prevention.
