Zambia’s ruling United Party for National Development has expelled 15 members

Zambia’s ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has expelled 15 members accused of insulting and undermining a party member who has chosen to contest a local government position as an independent candidate in Mazabuka.

The member at the centre of the dispute is Gary Nkombo, a former Minister of Local Government and long-serving Member of Parliament for Mazabuka district.

The expulsions come amid growing political tensions ahead of local electoral contests, with the party taking disciplinary action against members accused of bringing the organisation into disrepute.

The UPND has not released full details of the alleged misconduct, but party officials say the action was necessary to uphold discipline and respect among members.
