The victory also books Sundowns a place in the Intercontinental Cup and the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.

Mamelodi Sundowns are the kings of African football again after getting their second star by winning the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League in Rabat, Morocco.

Sundowns drew 1-1 with AS FAR in the second leg, but their crucial away goal saw them win 2-1 on aggregate, their first African title since 2016.

The victory also books Sundowns a place in the Intercontinental Cup and the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.

The Brazilians’ head coach, Miguel Cardoso, says that for him, the victory was quite personal.

This was his third CAF Champions League final appearance, following disappointments in previous campaigns.

“It was time, last year I saw tears in my players, and a few of them they knew we promised each other we would have tears, but they would be from joy, not sadness. I think you will have in your mind Khuliso Modau standing on the side of the bench in Cairo on that match we played against Pyramids last year, I embraced him and told him man, we are going to embrace next year.”
