Rugby Africa has appointed former National Basketball Association (NBA) Africa executive Aïcha Diop as Chief of Staff to its President, Herbert Mensah, in a move aimed at strengthening the organisation’s leadership and accelerating the growth of rugby across the continent.
Diop brings more than 18 years of international experience spanning Africa, Europe, the Middle East and North America. Her career includes senior roles with NBA Africa, the Basketball Africa League and global technology company IBM.
Rugby Africa said the appointment forms part of its broader strategy to modernise the organisation and expand the sport’s commercial opportunities, development programmes and global reach across the continent.
Mensah said Diop’s arrival reflects Rugby Africa’s ambition to position itself as a modern, high-performance sports organisation capable of competing on the global stage. He added that her experience in sports management, partnerships and organisational development would help drive the federation’s long-term vision for African rugby.
