Human Rights Watch says South Africa’s (SA) authorities should intensify efforts to address anti-immigrant sentiments and violence.
The organisation says this is to ensure the safety and protection of at-risk foreign nationals in the country.
This follows recent anti-immigrant group March and March demonstrations against undocumented migrants in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Gauteng Province, and Durban KwaZulu-Natal Province.
SA has been grappling with intermittent but widespread harassment against foreign nationals living in the country, whether refugees, asylum seekers, or both documented and undocumented migrants.
