The nomination of candidates is a critical stage in Zambia’s electoral process, as it determines who will appear on the ballot paper and who will be left as spectators after failing to qualify.
This point also marks the beginning of the election stage in a democratically and constitutionally governed Southern African country, specifically the official campaign period that lasts for 90 days leading up to the August 13, General Elections.
Zambia has recently finished its nomination process.
Unfortunately, this has been marred by incidents of violence, which goes against the hopes of many leaders and citizens.
The country has seen 14 candidates successfully filing in and being validly nominated to contest the August 13, 2026, Presidential election by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
About a thousand vying for Member of Parliament positions from the 226 available seats under the new law and equally thousands scrambling for the 1 858 local government seats available.
