Zambia’s IBA has introduced a new regulatory framework governing radio and television coverage ahead of the country’s 2026 general elections

Zambia’s Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has introduced a new regulatory framework governing radio and television coverage ahead of the country’s 2026 general elections.

IBA Director-General Webster Malido stated that the guidelines are specifically designed to promote fairness, balanced reporting, and national peace during the upcoming campaign period. The regulations aim to provide broadcasters with a clear template for ethical election reporting whilst ensuring that all competing political actors receive equitable treatment on the airwaves.

Reporting on the newly enforced directives, journalist Daniel Elisha Banda noted that the rules come at a critical time for the media landscape, as local and international observers monitor Zambia’s political environment ahead of the polls.
