SARS has launched a new Foreign Vehicle Declaration System

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has launched a new Foreign Vehicle Declaration System at key border posts in the North West province to strengthen customs compliance and border management.

From this Monday, June 1, all foreign-registered vehicles entering or leaving SA must be declared through the Traveller Management System before crossing the border. Temporary import permits valid for up to six months have also been introduced to allow multiple crossings.

SARS Commissioner Johnstone Makhubu said travellers will be required to provide personal details, passport information and vehicle particulars, including registration numbers, through the system.

The rollout is being implemented at the Skilpadshek Border Post and Kopfontein Border Post ports of entry between SA and Botswana.
