President Cyril Ramaphosa says the government is intensifying its efforts to tackle illegal immigration

South African (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa says the government is intensifying its efforts to tackle illegal immigration through stronger border controls, increased workplace inspections, and stricter enforcement of immigration laws.

Speaking during the Presidency Budget Vote in Parliament, Ramaphosa acknowledged that undocumented migration remains a significant challenge for the country, coinciding with ongoing anti-immigration protests in several regions.

He stated that authorities are ramping up inspections at businesses, prosecuting employers who violate labour laws, strengthening security at ports of entry, and tackling corruption within the immigration system. Ramaphosa maintained that despite the hurdles, the government is making steady progress in restoring the integrity of SA’s immigration framework.
