Mboweni remembered as a champion

South Africa’s (SA) late former Finance Minister and Reserve Bank Governor, Tito Mboweni, has been remembered as a champion of strong, credible and accountable public institutions.

Tributes were paid to one of SA’s most influential economic policymakers at the inaugural, Mboweni Memorial Lecture held in Cape Town, Western Cape.

The keynote address was delivered by former President of Germany’s Deutsche Bundesbank, Professor Axel Weber.

Mboweni, who also served as Labour Minister, died in 2024 after a short illness.

The event took place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, in the city where he delivered his final National Budget Speech.
