The tournament, jointly hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States (US), will demonstrate yet again how strong the love for the global game is.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, now only six days away, is set to be historic, with an unprecedented number of genuine contenders for the title. This is the view expressed by Spain’s head coach, Luis de la Fuente.

The tournament, jointly hosted by Mexico, Canada and the United States (US), will demonstrate yet again how strong the love for the global game is.

And while the world governing body, FIFA, continues to court bad publicity, 48 nations will do their part to unite the world and focus all attention on the pursuit of immortality.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino is bargaining on the fact that when the World Cup begins on June the 11, all the noise and criticism will go away.

He has a point, and he was able to make it succinctly to Canadian school children in the build-up to the tournament.

Fifa President Gianni Infantino says, “So children, kids, when you learn at school that the world is, you know, rotating and turning and so on, the only time when the world stands still is during the FIFA World Cup. The world stands still because nobody’s breathing and everyone is focusing on what is going to happen.”
