The World Health Organisation (WHO) says community trust and expanded laboratory testing are proving critical in the fight against the Ebola outbreak in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
More than 550 confirmed cases and over 100 deaths have been recorded since the outbreak began, while neighbouring Uganda is also reporting infections.
WHO officials say efforts are intensifying to identify cases early, trace contacts and strengthen cross-border collaboration to contain the virus.
WHO says the Ebola outbreak remains largely concentrated in Ituri Province in eastern DRC, where the vast majority of cases have been recorded.
WHO’s Health Emergency Alert and Response Operations Director, Dr Abdirahman Mahamud, says increased testing capacity is helping health authorities detect more cases.
