Prominent Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has accused a private hospital in Lagos of actively obstructing a coronial inquest into the death of her 21-month-old son.
Adichie’s son, Nkanu, tragically passed away at Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital in January, with an official inquest scheduled to commence in April. However, the award-winning writer alleges that the hospital has deliberately stalled, muddied, and caused confusion over the proceedings, culminating in a legal bid by Euracare at Nigeria’s Federal High Court to block the inquiry entirely.
The allegations follow an independent investigation by a panel from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, which previously established a prima facie case of medical negligence against the facility. Euracare has strongly denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that the medical care administered to the toddler was fully in line with international clinical standards.
