Belgium head coach Rudi Garcia has urged his players to take immediate control of their 2026 FIFA World Cup opener against Egypt tonight

Belgium head coach Rudi Garcia has urged his players to take immediate control of their 2026 FIFA World Cup opener against Egypt tonight, whilst warning that they are about to face one of the strongest African sides ever assembled.

The highly anticipated Group G clash is expected to play a pivotal role in deciding who finishes top of a group that also includes Iran and New Zealand. With the group winner likely to benefit from a far more favourable route through the knockout stages, Garcia made it clear that the Red Devils must focus entirely on their own strengths and look to dictate the match from the first whistle.

Tonight’s fixture also marks a major career milestone for Youri Tielemans, who will lead Belgium at a major tournament for the very first time as Captain. The midfielder highlighted that the squad must successfully handle the immense pressure that comes with an opening World Cup match and ensure they start the tournament strongly.
