Cape Town’s tourism industry in South Africa’s (SA) Western Cape province generated over R24 billion ($1.5 million) in 2025. The industry says foreign visitors’ spending reached an all-time high of R19 billion ($1.2 million). It says the visitors and their spending contributed to over 106 000 jobs.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth and Tourism, James Vos, says tourism is one of the most powerful tools for job creation and contributes greatly to economic growth.
Data that Airports Company SA has released shows a record 11 million two-way passenger flights in 2025, with over three million two-way international passengers passing through the airport’s international terminal. This represents a seven percent increase compared with 2024.
The industry says domestic tourism has, however, declined due to economic pressure.
