São Tomé and Príncipe’s largest political party, ADI, is facing fresh internal crisis

São Tomé and Príncipe’s largest political party, the Independent Democratic Action (ADI), is facing a fresh internal crisis following a chaotic National Council meeting.

The meeting, which was meant to iron out details for the party’s upcoming elective congress, instead broke down into shouting matches and physical scuffles between members.

Prime Minister Américo Ramos has flagged the process, claiming there were irregularities and questioning whether the decisions made during the meeting are actually legitimate. On the other side, party Vice-president Celmira Sacramento has defended the gathering, insisting that all internal rules and procedures were strictly followed.
