The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has commended the government and people of Ethiopia following the successful conduct of the country’s 7th General Elections.
The elections, which took place on June 1, 2026, were praised by the AU leadership as a demonstration of the country’s commitment to consolidating democratic governance. Youssouf also highlighted the professionalism of the National Election Board of Ethiopia in managing the voting process.
The statement from the continental body follows the official election results released recently, which confirmed a majority victory for Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the ruling Prosperity Party.
Youssouf reiterated that the AU Commission remains committed to supporting credible, peaceful, and transparent electoral processes across all member states.
