The National Assembly of Angola has officially approved a comprehensive new Personal Income Tax Code law, marking a major legislative reform aimed at modernising the country’s fiscal framework.
The structural overhaul is designed to significantly simplify the national tax system, broaden the state’s tax base, and cut down on administrative bureaucracy. Among the key updates introduced in the new legal framework is the consolidation of several scattered income taxes into a single, unified legal statute, making compliance far more straightforward for taxpayers.
Crucially, the progressive legislation introduces targeted social relief measures, including dedicated tax benefits for persons with disabilities. It also marks a major shift by allowing individual citizens to legally deduct essential health and pharmaceutical expenses directly from their annual income tax assessments.
Government officials state that the reform is a vital step toward creating a more equitable economic environment and reducing reliance on traditional oil revenues by formalising and optimising broader domestic revenue streams.
