Delegates slam lack of compliance with African Court decisions

Legal experts and delegates meeting in South Africa have raised serious concerns over the growing number of African governments failing to implement rulings passed by the continental human rights court.

The issue took center stage on the opening day of a conference reviewing landmark judgments by African Union human rights bodies, currently underway at the University of Pretoria.

Participants noted that while the Arusha-based African Court has consistently handed down progressive decisions to protect citizens, many member states simply ignore them.

This widespread non-compliance leaves victims without real justice or protection, even after winning historic cases at the highest level on the continent.
