Zimbabweans at Cape Town consulate moved to Epping repatriation centre

A group of Zimbabwean nationals gathered outside the District Six Consulate in Cape Town, South Africa will be relocated to the Department of Home Affairs Repatriation Centre in Epping today.

The relocation is part of a co-ordinated joint operation aimed at facilitating a voluntary repatriation process. The City of Cape Town confirmed that all subsequent repatriation requests will be processed at the Epping facility before the individuals are safely transported to the Beitbridge border post.

City Spokesperson Luthando Tyhalibongo stated that multiple municipal departments have been deployed to ensure the transition runs smoothly.

“City Safety and Security Services are on site to maintain public order and to assist with the relocation,” Tyhalibongo said. “Our Traffic and Cleansing Departments are simultaneously managing access routes and waste management in the area. We appreciate the continued support of humanitarian organisations operating in the area.”

Local authorities have urged residents and motorists to exercise caution and avoid the immediate vicinity of the consulate while the relocation operation is underway.
