South African (SA) Minister of International Relations and Co-operation Ronald Lamola have voiced concerns regarding the recent visit of the former President and uMkhonto weSizwe Party leader, Jacob Zuma to India.
His concerns follow a viral social media post of the former head of state photographed alongside Ajay Gupta, who is a fugitive of South Africa after his alleged involvement in government corruption surfaced during the state capture inquiry.
Zuma and Gupta were attending a prayer ceremony hosted by a spiritual leader.
Lamola says the Department of International Relations and Co-operation probing Zuma’s visit.
“I have noted the newspaper reports and the public information and we have requested information from our Director General of how the visit happened and the involvement of the Department of International Relations and Co-operation High Commissioner in India, the South African High Commissioner, on which capacity and what was the process that was followed.”
