Chad calls on ICC to prosecute international crimes globally

Chad government has formally requested the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute all perpetrators of international crimes globally, citing a critical need for judicial equity across all regions.

N’Djamena maintains that the ICC must shed its perception as a tribunal that predominantly targets African situations. The legal appeal highlights that individuals responsible for international atrocities should face prosecution and trial, regardless of their nationality or geographic origin.

This diplomatic move occurs amid sustained criticism of the ICC, particularly from African nations, regarding perceived selectivity in its docket selection.

Speaking on the development, political activist and former Chadian Presidential Advisor Makaïla Nguebla stated that Chad’s demand reflects a widespread continental frustration with the court’s focus. Nguebla noted that for the ICC to maintain legitimacy, it must apply international law universally rather than appearing to intervene primarily in African affairs.
