Zimbabwe has entered a new political chapter
Zimbabwe has entered a new political chapter after sweeping constitutional changes came into force.
The move is reshaping how the country’s president is elected, extending presidential and parliamentary terms, and altering the powers of key state institutions.
While the government says the reforms are designed to promote stability and improve governance, critics argue they weaken democratic safeguards and concentrate more power in the executive.
The legislation, published as Act No. 6 of 2026, replaces key provisions of the 2013 Constitution and introduces a new constitutional framework for the election of the President and the duration of elected office.
Supporters of the amendments argue that the changes will provide greater political stability and allow for longer-term policy implementation.
