The United States (US) has launched a fresh wave of airstrikes against Iran, targeting sites it says threaten shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The strikes mark a sharp escalation in tensions.
Iran retaliated by launching missiles and drones towards US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.
President Donald Trump says he now believes last month’s interim ceasefire with Tehran is “over” after Iran was blamed for attacks on commercial vessels in the waterway.
Washington says the operation is aimed at protecting freedom of navigation, while Tehran insists the Strait will only reopen under Iranian control.
The latest exchange has further dimmed hopes of reviving negotiations to end the conflict.
