The two-day meeting will take place in Salima and is scheduled to open on Thursday. Ministers responsible for foreign affairs, defence, public security and state security from all 16 SADC member states are expected to attend.
Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, George Chaponda, will chair the meeting as the country continues its role within the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.
The gathering will focus on reviewing peace and security developments across Southern Africa, assessing the political situation in member states and strengthening regional cooperation on democracy, governance and stability.
Delegates are expected to discuss ongoing security challenges affecting parts of the region, including conflict prevention, peacebuilding efforts, electoral processes and the promotion of democratic institutions.
The Ministerial Committee serves as one of SADC’s key decision-making structures on political and security matters. The body is responsible for coordinating regional responses to threats to peace, security and stability while promoting cooperation among member states.
The meeting will also review progress made under the SADC Organ’s programmes and consider measures aimed at enhancing collective efforts to address emerging regional challenges.
