United States (US) Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced a campaign aimed at dismantling what he describes as the threat the International Criminal Court (ICC) poses to US sovereignty.
The initiative will involve a whole-of-government approach to systematically limit the court’s ability to operate, investigate, or prosecute American service members and government officials.
In a statement, the State Department said no diplomatic measure would be ruled out.
Proposed actions include revoking visas, and imposing travel bans on ICC personnel, expanding sanctions against the court and affiliated organisations, and implementing a range of additional measures intended to curb the International Criminal Court’s activities.
