Ministers responsible for Energy and Water from across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) are gathering in South Africa’s (SA) Gauteng Province this week for talks aimed at strengthening regional energy security and improving the management of scarce water resources.
The meeting comes at a critical time for the region, as Southern African countries grapple with rising electricity demand, climate change pressures, worsening water shortages and ageing infrastructure.
The four-day gathering will bring together ministers, senior government officials, regional institutions and development partners to review progress on key energy and water projects, while identifying new strategies to support sustainable economic growth and regional integration.
The Chief Director at the Department of Energy says the meeting is centred on accelerating regional integration through closer cooperation between SADC member states.
