SA and Russia have vowed to strengthen ties and deepen cooperation, with leaders from both countries describing the current period as an important opportunity to elevate relations to a new level.
During the talks in Moscow, the Head of SA’s National Council of Provinces said relations between the two countries are rooted in history and that Pretoria is keen to attract more Russian investment and expand mutually beneficial co-operation.
The discussions focused on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy, including greater engagement between parliamentary committees, young lawmakers and cooperation groups established between the two legislatures.
Regional co-operation also featured prominently, with both sides highlighting growing exchanges between SA provinces and Russian regions and pledging continued support for delegation visits and people to people engagement.
The visit forms part of broader efforts to translate longstanding diplomatic ties into deeper political, economic and parliamentary co-operation.
