President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno has announced that Chad will completely scrap visa requirements for all African nationals starting January 1, 2027.
The policy shift was unveiled on 15 July in N’Djamena during the opening of the African Water Forum. By lifting these travel restrictions, Chad will become the eighth nation on the continent to offer total visa-free entry to all African citizens.
Chad is not alone in targeting this timeline. In May, Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou N’Guesso announced an identical measure, which is also set to take effect on the first day of 2027.
