Uganda’s Shadow Minister for Sports, Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa, has stated that the country’s success in co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) must be measured by its long-term impact on local sports development rather than just the matches played.
Speaking during a parliamentary sitting chaired by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, Zambaali emphasised that the continental tournament is a golden opportunity to build a sustainable sports ecosystem across Uganda through deliberate investments in infrastructure, institutions, and grassroots talent.
The national parliament is currently reviewing the Ugandan government’s readiness and preparatory roadmap for AFCON 2027, which Uganda is co-hosting alongside East African neighbors Kenya and Tanzania.
The multi-nation showpiece is highly anticipated to drive major sports infrastructure upgrades, bolster tourism, and strengthen regional cooperation across East Africa.
