A jersey worn by Brazilian football icon Pelé during the 1958 World Cup final has just sold for a staggering $4.9 million at an auction in New York.
The massive price tag instantly makes it the second most expensive football shirt in history.
Pelé was just a teenager when he wore the yellow shirt, scoring twice against hosts Sweden to hand Brazil its first-ever World Cup trophy. To this day, the late legend, who passed away in 2022 at age 82, holds the record as the youngest player to ever score in a World Cup final.
The all-time football record still belongs to Diego Maradona. Four years ago, the shirt Maradona wore when he scored the famous “Hand of God” goal against England in 1986 fetched a mind-blowing $9.3 million.
