African Union pays tribute to late Djiboutian Defence Minister Hassan Omar Mohamed

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has expressed profound sadness following the death of Djibouti’s Minister of Defence and Parliamentary Relations, Hassan Omar Mohamed Bourhan.

 

In an official statement released from the continental body’s headquarters in Addis Ababa Youssouf paid tribute to the late Minister, describing him as a dedicated public servant who spent his life working to strengthen national institutions and maintain stability.

 

The AU Chief highlighted Bourhan’s high sense of responsibility and professionalism, noting that his efforts at home contributed significantly to broader, collaborative peace and security initiatives across the African continent.

 

On behalf of the AU Commission, Youssouf extended heartfelt condolences to Bourhan’s family, as well as to Djiboutian President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, the government, and the people of Djibouti.

 

The AU reiterated its full solidarity with Djibouti during this period of national mourning, honoring a leader whose commitment to public service left a lasting mark on the region.
