South Africa (SA) and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have officially joined forces to advance the rights and empowerment of women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
SA’s Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, met with the Dutch Ambassador to SA, Joanne Doornewaard, in Pretoria this Monday to formalise the partnership by signing a new Memorandum of Understanding.
The agreement establishes a solid framework for the two nations to exchange policy expertise, share resources, and launch joint programs designed to fast-track social development and economic inclusion.
Chikunga highlighted that the partnership will focus on sharing strategies where the Netherlands has proven success, specifically targeting the fight against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).
“It talks to issues of collaboration between SA and the Netherlands, co-operation between the two countries,” Chikunga said. “It identifies some areas such as issues of GBVF. Where Netherlands, for instance, is stronger, to say how best do we work together on those areas.”
Beyond safety and human rights, Chikunga noted that the deal will open practical doors for everyday citizens by creating exchange opportunities and establishing new market networks to help local businesses grow internationally.
