African Union’s Youssouf reaffirms solidarity with Niger and Mali after fatal militant attacks

African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf has issued a strong condemnation following recent deadly terrorist attacks targeting security forces and civilians in Niger and Mali.

In an official statement released from AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Youssouf expressed deep outrage over the coordinated assaults across the central Sahel, describing the ongoing violence as a direct threat to regional stability and human security.

The continental leadership extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the governments and peoples of Niger and Mali, while wishing a full recovery to those injured in the raids.

Reaffirming the continental body’s commitment to the Sahel region, Youssouf called for enhanced regional co-operation and international support to bolster counter-terrorism initiatives. He reiterated that sustainable peace in the West African sub-region requires unified action to neutralize extremist groups, protect vulnerable civilian populations, and tackle the root causes of instability.
