Nigeria’s Kanyinsola Ajayi sent a bold message to the sprinting world by defeating Jamaica’s Oblique Seville, the season’s form man, in a thrilling 100m final at the Diamond League meeting in London.
Ajayi stormed to victory in 9.84 seconds, tying the Nigerian national record and narrowly edging out Seville, who finished second in 9.87 seconds. Britain’s Romell Glave claimed third place with a personal-best time of 9.97 seconds, while South Africa’s Gift Leotlela crossed the line fifth in 9.99 seconds.
The impressive win marks Ajayi’s second victory over Seville this season, following his breakthrough performance at the Prefontaine Classic.
