Lawyers across Kenya have initiated a nationwide boycott of court proceedings to protest deep-seated corruption and chronic delays within the country’s legal system.
The strike, organised by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), comes as advocates highlight that cases in the East African nation now take an average of two years to resolve, a lag they attribute directly to systemic inefficiencies and graft.
Following Wednesday’s action, the LSK is pressing ahead with targeted boycotts against specific judges and magistrates. The lawyers accuse these judicial officers of shielding corruption suspects and issuing injunctions that actively block anti-graft investigations and internal disciplinary actions. Highlighting accountability at the very top, the LSK’s pressure campaign has singled out senior judicial figures, including Chief Justice Martha Koome.
