The mission came weeks after Ghana postponed planned high-level bilateral engagements

South Africa (SA) has moved to ease diplomatic tensions with Ghana following on-going protests against undocumented foreign nationals, dispatching International Relations and Co-operation Minister Ronald Lamola to Accra.

The mission came weeks after Ghana postponed planned high-level bilateral engagements after Ghana formally asked the African Union (AU) to intervene.  Addressing a media briefing in Pretoria, Lamola has confirmed delivering a special message to Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama.

He says they agreed that the current migration-related challenges will not stand in the way of SA-Ghana bilateral relations and that they referred the matter to the AU to give SA an opportunity to explain itself.
