SADC and global partners launch major disaster simulation drill in Mozambique

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is teaming up with the Mozambican government and international relief agencies to launch a major Regional Cyclone and Flood Response Simulation Exercise in Nacala, running from July 27 to 31, 2026.

The five-day drill comes at a crucial time for Southern Africa, as increasingly severe weather, driven by climate change, threatens to overwhelm individual national capacities.

Operating directly out of the SADC Humanitarian and Emergency Operations Centre ) in Nacala, the exercise will put the region’s emergency protocols to the test against a simulated severe cyclone and flooding crisis.
