The Stormers have already agreed deals with Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, Cheslin Kolbe and Wilco Louw, but SA publication Rapport reports that De Allende is not expected to join that list.
De Allende, 34, previously spent seven seasons with the Stormers and had been linked with a possible return to Cape Town. However, the report says the franchise has decided not to make a formal offer.
De Allende is currently contracted to Japan’s Panasonic Wild Knights until June 2027, which would make any move more complicated and potentially costly.
The Stormers are looking to strengthen midfield options after Dan du Plessis’ move to Bordeaux-Begles, while uncertainty remains around Ruhan Nel’s future.
Despite that need, the arrival of Kolisi, Kolbe and Louw has placed pressure on the Stormers’ budget, making another high-profile Springbok signing difficult.
“The Stormers’ strategy is not to make an offer to every Springbok or star player who wants to return to Cape Town. That would be unaffordable,” a source told Rapport.
With De Allende reportedly off the table, the Stormers are understood to be considering younger options, including Sharks centre Jurenzo Julius.
Julius, 22, has become a regular in the United Rugby Championship and is regarded as one of SA rugby’s most promising midfield prospects.
Julius’ current deal with the Sharks runs until the end of the 2026/27 season, but the Stormers are reportedly monitoring the player as part of longer-term planning.
