Malawian boxer Elias Bonzo has been eliminated from the 2026 Commonwealth Games following a hard-fought quarterfinal defeat to Zambia’s Emmanuel Katema in the men’s 65kg division.
Bonzo entered the last-eight contest brimming with confidence after delivering back-to-back dominant performances in his opening bouts. His convincing early-round victories had earned widespread praise from fans and built strong momentum for a potential podium finish.
However, the impressive run came to an end against Katema, whose decisive performance in the quarterfinal halted the Malawian’s campaign just short of the medal rounds.
Despite missing out on a medal, Bonzo exits the competition with his head held high after putting together one of the most promising runs of his international career.
