South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has dismissed the country’s Central bank Governor, the latest in a series of sackings and reshuffles in senior ranks of his government.
Kiir announced the removal of Johnny Ohisa late on Wednesday.
Kiir, who did not give a reason for the sacking in the decree read on the state broadcaster, replaced Ohisa with Addis Ababa Othow, who held the same position between June and November last year.
In recent months Kiir has made a series of sweeping changes in senior ranks of his government, which analysts say signal an effort to consolidate power amid succession uncertainty.
Ohisa, an economist who has served multiple terms as Central bank governor in the past, was reappointed earlier this year after previously holding the position on two separate occasions.
South Sudan’s economy has faced mounting pressure from declining oil revenues, recurring cash shortages, high inflation and currency depreciation.
