Africa will celebrate Pan-African Women’s Day tomorrow, July 31st, marking 64 years since the founding of the Pan-African Women’s Organisation (PAWO) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in 1962.
According to PAWO, the annual event honors the resilience, unwavering spirit, and revolutionary leadership of African women across the continent in their continuous pursuit of liberation, social justice, and self-determination.
Beyond celebrating historical milestones in anti-colonial and freedom struggles, the day serves as a focal point to assess ongoing efforts toward gender equality, socio-economic empowerment, and women’s representation in governance across Africa.
