International Labour Organisation (ILO) Director-General Gilbert Houngbo has concluded a productive visit to Malawi, reaffirming the ILO’s commitment to supporting the country’s efforts to advance decent work, social protection, skills development and job creation.

During the visit, Houngbo met with Government, workers’ and employers’ representatives to discuss key priorities, including youth employment, social protection, skills development, child labour elimination and support for Malawians returning from South Africa (SA).

Authorities in SA and in Malawi have reported that Malawians account for roughly 81% of the more than 68 000 total undocumented foreign nationals processed and repatriated to their home countries.
