Uganda deploys the country’s military to the Gaza Strip

The greenlight has been granted as part of a proposed multinational security force und the United States (US) President Donald Trump’s ceasefire plan.

Uganda’s Defence Minister Kiryowa Kiwanuka told parliament that Trump had contacted Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to request Kampala’s contribution to the International Stabilisation Force, which would operate in areas of Gaza not under Israeli control.

The decision marks Uganda’s first public commitment to a peacekeeping role in the Middle East, expanding on its existing military presence in Somalia, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
