Speaking in an interview on Rise and Shine, Professor Elvis Ngolle Ngolle, a member of the Central Committee of the governing Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), maintained that President Paul Biya’s extended private stay in Geneva, Switzerland, aligns entirely with the nation’s legal frameworks.

The 93-year-old leader has been out of the country since June 7, prompting growing criticism from opposition groups who accuse the presidency of governing by remote control. However, Ngolle, a Former Minister of special duties who served under Biya for nearly a decade, insisted that the President is exercising his legitimate constitutional rights and remains fully in charge of state affairs.

“Biya is exercising his normal constitutional, legal prerogatives,” Ngolle stated, emphasising that official statements from the Civil Cabinet and government Spokespersons remain the sole authoritative updates regarding his status. “Geneva is a well-known address in the world, we have no reason to doubt that.”

Addressing recent concerns over a major shake-up in military leadership and the vacant vice-presidential seat created under constitutional amendments passed last April, Ngolle rejected claims that political instability or a secretive succession plan is unfolding within the state apparatus.

“There’s nothing that you can claim or say is brewing,” Ngolle declared, pointing to Article 8 of Cameroon’s constitution, which grants the Head of State explicit authority over civil and military appointments. He added that filling the vice-presidential position remains entirely within Biya’s discretion “when he deems it opportune.”

Ngolle maintained that state operations continue to function normally without disruption, noting that the political class and citizens are actively preparing for upcoming national elections. According to government Spokespersons, Biya is expected to return to Yaoundé shortly.
