South Africa’s (SA) International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola says he had a fruitful telephone conversation with his United Kingdom (UK) counterpart, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband.
Lamola says the discussion focused on advancing dialogue on global conflicts, multilateral reform and the shared G20 agenda.
The call follows Andy Burnham’s succession of Keir Starmer as Prime Minister and the formation of a new UK government.
Lamola elaborated on the discussions between the two.
“The UK will be the Presidency of the G20 in 2027. We are part of the troiker, and we have already been working with the UK to end over some of the engagements and for them to take forward some of the themes from the SA G20, and the UK remains very committed to doing that. And the discussion was also part of sharing some of the themes that can be taken forward when the UK assumes the G20 Presidency.”
