The treason case facing Tundu Lissu, Chairperson of the Party for Democracy and Progress (CHADEMA), was heard at the High Court of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam this Monday, August 10, 2026.
The court proceedings resumed following a decision by the Court of Appeal, which dismissed an application by the prosecution seeking to introduce additional evidence. A panel of three judges, led by Justice Dunstan Ndunguru alongside Justice James Karayemaha and Justice Ferdinand Kiwonde, is presiding over the trial. The charges stem from public statements made by Lissu, which authorities allege were intended to disrupt the conduct of the general election.
The trial is scheduled to sit continuously until September 7 as the state continues to present its witnesses and evidence.
