Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, has formally submitted its bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships, aiming to become the first African city to stage the sport’s premier global event.
Nairobi enters a competitive field alongside major European cities, including London, Rome, and Munich, for the right to host the championships.
The Kenyan government has pledged full financial, security, and logistical backing for the bid to ensure the capital meets all international infrastructure and organizational requirements.
Kenya has built a strong track record of staging international track and field events, having successfully hosted the 2007 World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa, as well as the 2017 World Under-18 Championships and the 2021 World Under-20 Championships in Nairobi.
World Athletics is expected to announce the host city for the 2029 World Athletics Championships in September.
