The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has rolled out a $725 491 humanitarian intervention to support disaster-affected communities across Liberia.
Implemented alongside the Liberian Red Cross Society and the National Disaster Management Agency, the initiative delivers direct cash transfers, clean water facilities, and agricultural tools to flood-impacted families in Bong and Grand Cape Mount counties.
A delegation led by Dr Mohammed Ibrahim, ECOWAS Acting Director of Humanitarian and Social Affairs, visited affected regions to evaluate recovery efforts. Flood victims in Bong County received $250 each in cash relief alongside farming inputs, while communities in Grand Cape Mount County gained access to newly installed water hand pumps to prevent waterborne illnesses.
Ibrahim highlighted that the intervention aligns with the bloc’s vision to transform from an “ECOWAS of States to an ECOWAS of the people” by delivering direct, tangible support to citizens.
